Saddhasura

UK scriptwriter, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Writing contemporary social realism (personal drama) for features or shorts.

I also love helping others who would like to write,

as well as concentrating on my own cinematic projects.

I am very happy to read scripts, outlines, or treatments from

non-professionals and offer kind constructive feedback.

There is no charge at the moment, so please do get in contact

regarding any of your screenwriting projects.

Who is Saddhasura?

Generation X survivor

I grew up in the 70s and 80s, when VHS was just starting out.  A trip to the local Cinema was a real treat.  There were only 3 channels on the TV, until Channel 4 in 1982.
Buck Rogers & The 25th Century.  Top of the Pops, The Sweeney and World in Action.
Jumpers for goal posts. Jaws, and Boys From the Black Stuff.  The country was in recession, and the youth moved from Punk into New Wave, then New Romantic before EDM was even an idea.
We all watched John Hughes films, and knew that 'chicks cannot hold their smoke'.  Payed £4:50 to see Motorhead, and discovered Reggae.  What a time to be alive!

Education

Bumbled through higher education, and dropped out of art college, having succumbed to the usual distractions.
Reflected at leisure about my choices while I washed dishes for a year or two, until I secured work in design.  I've always been able to draw.
As powerpoint took over my employment chances, and digital cameras began to appear, I turned to introspection and spiritual enquiry as my 30s approached.  I found Buddhism, and I went back to University to become a nurse, (qualified March 1998).
I studied jazz guitar.  Music theory may have altered my synapses forever?

Now in 2026 I have my first degree in nursing and an MA (distinction) in Screenwriting.
As my work becomes established and industry ready, this page will expand to exhibit my portfolio.   At the moment, it's baby steps.

Interests Outside of Screenwriting

I am a Buddhist, finding Ordination as Saddhasura in 2009.  My name means 'hero of faith', and is a constant reminder to explore life fully through the lens of the Buddha's teaching.

Some days I am right on the money, other days you may wonder if I've ever meditated in my life.  Still, with 30 years experience I choose to share my understanding with others, and teach at my local centre (sangha).

Social Justice. 'Nuff said.

Children's Hospices, (I've worked in a couple).

Cinema, (I saw Starwars in a Theatre in 1977). Subscribe to Mubi, BFI, Amazon and Apple TV, as well as supporting my two local indie cinemas.

Some literature, mainly American, (could always read more).

The world, the people, the land and the sea. This life is not without its struggles.  I love eastern culture.

I love playing my bass guitar, and drawing when I get time.

Exploring my mind, and being kind.

The thread of story runs through all our experiences.

Stories are our first methodology that make these  experiences feel safer, easier to share or even justify.

They place us in our own culture or that of a stranger, as we lean in to hear the tales told by others.

As a screenwriter and teller of tales I am constantly looking to find

the common threads that link us all together, so that any unique story

lands with an audience in a way that resonates with their

collective emotional response.

Focus down on any character, and we see the interplay of countless conditions that shape their behaviour as they steer their life to meet their needs and wants.

Pull back and we witness the common beliefs that chorral us all into the transient pens of like/dislike, hatred/love and ignorance/wisdom.

Ever since Adam & Eve were banished, or Jack & Jill went up a hill,

we universally love and rely on stories to plot our next move.

To move toward meaning, and away from the pitfalls endured by others.
